Spotlight on… Bishop Donald Allister

Please tell us about a time in your life when God spoke to you most vividly and personally through the Bible. Which passage was it and what did it mean to you at the time?

1 Samuel 30:6 David strengthened himself in the Lord his God. This first spoke personally to me in a crisis 30+ years ago. I was enabled to apply it to myself and feel his strength. It is still fresh and powerful.

In recent years what has helped to keep the Bible fresh for you?

Reading it aloud and letting it lead my praying.

What does your regular practice of Bible reading look like?

Systematic, with others when possible, aloud when possible.

What would you say to a Christian who is struggling to read the Bible?

Commit to read with someone else.

What is your prayer for the Biblefresh initiative?

That people with an intellectual commitment to Scripture will also have a passion for it
