"Reading the Bible isn't about gathering information, how many chapters or books we've read or whether we can reel off verses from memory. It's about a relationship. Understanding this is at the heart of what it is to read the Bible and receive life from its pages. ..If we read the Bible just for the sake of it, it’s likely to become dry and lifeless. But if we read the Bible because we want relationship with the Prince of Peace and the Lord of Life, then it's quite different. It becomes a way of getting to know our Friend."

"..it doesn’t matter if you don’t have an earth-shattering sense of God’s Word leaping out at you in letters of burning fire every time you read the Bible. We read the Bible as much to get our heads round the big story of God at work in the world through Jesus and His Spirit as we do for a personal spiritual experience. These experiences will come, but they come out of a deepening relationship, and reading Scripture really helps that relationship to grow."

David Wilkinson

David Wilkinson

David is Principal of St John's College, Durham.

"One of the times when God has spoken most vividly and personally was as a research student when my work was in the origin of the universe and the galaxies and how galaxies form. One day I was reading Colossians ch.1 v15-20 and was caught by the verse ‘In him all things cohere’. It struck me in a brand new way that the reason I was able to do science, the reason that there are laws of physics at the heart of the universe, is because all creation has coherence and further than that, Jesus is the source of that coherence."

Elaine Storkey

Elaine Storkey

Elaine is an author, international speaker, President of Tearfund and Chair of Fulcrum.

"I don’t think it’s a challenge at all to get people engaged in the Bible; you just have to read it. You just have to let them see how exciting and dynamic it is. You know, I’ve been in schools up and down the country, been in all kinds of contexts where you just open the Bible, often starting with the gospels, maybe a parable, and just share it with folk there and they are riveted. You know, it’s not rocket science. Its stories accessible to everybody and I think we just have to do it. Open the Bible and do it."

Gordon Kennedy

Gordon Kennedy

Gordon is Minister of Stranraer St Ninians. He is married to Fiona and has 2 sons.

"A few weeks after my father died my sister and I found a scrap of paper inside one of his books. On this piece of paper he had used a typewriter to copy out Psalm 27:4, “One thing I have asked of the Lord, and that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord, all the days of my life”. In the weeks following, I was, and remain, encouraged with the hope that these words expressed the faith which my dad had and which held him into that eternal presence of his Father. Since then, I have found in Bible reading that the desire of the Lord is to dwell with his people and to have us live together with him. This is not a minor theme in Scripture but a great hope which shines from every page."

Greg Haslam

Greg Haslam

Greg Haslam is the Senior Pastor of Westminster Chapel, London.

"My whole Christian life of some 42 years now has been punctuated with many vivid occasions when God has spoken to me through the Bible. Perhaps the most significant was in the third year of my ministry when I was desperate about the state of the church I was pastoring. The letter to the Laodicean church in Revelation 3 came alive to me in a remarkable way. I was gripped by its message and knew that in preaching from it our church would never be the same again."

We need God’s equipping – and the Scripture is an essential part of that.'

Simon Steer

Simon Steer

The Bible competes with A Brief History of Time for the dubious honour of being the least read best seller. In my experience, many people struggle with three questions: how on earth do I go about reading this rather daunting book?; how can I figure out what it means?; and does it have any relevance to my life in the 21st century? By providing a variety of creative and thoughtful ways of working through these questions, Biblefresh has the potential do something truly significant for individuals, for the Church and even for the wider community. I am delighted to commend and be a part of this excellent initiative.

Watcyn James

Watcyn James

Three passages have been central to my understanding of the immensity of the grace of God and the hope contained in the gospel.

The first is John 10:10, ‘I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.’ This spoke to me at the beginning of my walk with God. It is the message that changed my life and underpins my preaching ministry and witness.
