Essential 100

Your Journey through the Bible

An excellent Biblefresh initiative is being brought to you by three leading Bible agencies. The Bible Societies and Scripture Union movements across Britain and Ireland have combined with Wycliffe Bible Translators to create a unique initiative to inspire afresh with the Bible.
The E100 Bible Reading Challenge is based around 100 carefully selected Bible readings (50 from the Old Testament and 50 from the New Testament) designed to give participants a good understanding of the overall Bible story from Genesis to Revelation – and to develop a new enthusiasm for regular Bible engagement.

Full details of this valuable new initiative are to be found on the website:  www.e100challenge.org.uk.  Now is the time to plan it into your church programme for next year and CPO have created a fabulous range of materials to help you make the most of this opportunity. You can also download the doublesided leaflet shown here for use in your church.

So check out the website, www.e100challenge.org.uk, and get planning now get your whole church signed up to the challenge at the beginning of 2011.

The Authority of Scripture

Krish Kandiah writes on the Authority of Scripture

‘I had a sudden panic attack at lunchtime today. I was speaking at an evangelistic event at Warwick University. The Christian Union had as usual done a great job. It had provided a buffet lunch and peppered the campus with flyers.

“If God exists, why doesn’t He prove himself?” was my theme, and members of the atheist society had turned up. I began to panic as I looked around at the listeners and then down at my notes as I stood up to speak. I had a fascinating video clip, several philosophical arguments and even a few funny stories up my sleeve. But my panic attack wasn’t due to the topic, the audience or my sketchy notes. I had a wave of doubt as to my authority to talk on this subject.

Confidence in preparation, qualifications, material and even humour can take us a long way in most spheres of life. But when it comes to commending belief in God in our culture we need much more than that. Read the rest of this entry »

Foundations21: Making Sense of the Bible

This is a six week course with PowerPoint slides for small groups or large gatherings. The material comes on a CD with Notes and Handouts for you to print out.

• The course is presented using PowerPoint slides and short video clips.
• For a leader used to leading sessions using PowerPoint and group exercises, it is simple to run and can be used straight ‘out of the packet’ with minimum preparation. There are plenty of opportunities for interaction within the group.
• You can run it with a small group around a reasonable sized computer monitor or in a larger group using a video projector.
• Each week there is something for participants to do at home, such as read through a gospel.
• Everyone who takes part in the course is encouraged to sign up for free access to BRF’s online discipleship resource Foundations21, on which the course is based, so that they can explore further each week’s topic.
• The leader also has free online access to Foundations21 where there is additional material and resources.

1. THE BIBLE: THE BOOK OF HOPE
2. HOPE IN A CHALLENGING WORLD – MARK
3. THE PROMISED HOPE – MATTHEW
