Roehampton University are holding an evening class, ‘How do we read the Bible?’ Traditionally known as hermeneutics, this innovative course will equip you to analyse, evaluate and develop your own Bible use, as well as communicate good practice within your church.
Beginning with an understanding of the Political, Social and Religious world of the New Testament, this course provides an insightful overview of each of the New Testament books.The uniqueness of each New Testament writer is seen as their prominent themes are identified whilst the unity of the New Testament is evidenced as the books are shown in their canonical, original, ecclesial, and Pentecostal contexts.The course is also offered as part of the Ministerial Internship Programme and leads to 3 credits towards the Certificate in Ministerial Studies [CIMS].
A review of the great themes of the Old Testament including the life of Israel, the Kings and the Prophets. MA and Postgraduate Diploma and Certificate
Moorlands realises the importance of life-long learning for effective Christian work. If you want your ministry to grow, you need to spend time reflecting on your life, gifting and practice. These courses will give you the tools you need for this. We offer two courses in our MA programme, for the continual professional development of those involved in Christian Ministry Leadership, and Family, Youth and Community Work. The programme is part-time, teaching is delivered through four study blocks per year. Inbetween, you'll work on assignments with support from the college through an internet based system.

The course has been designed for Christian youth workers who also work in school settings. It equips students to work in Christian youth work and ministry, and to work within secondary schools and post-16 educational settings. Modules will cover working with individuals, working with groups, working informally in ‘formal’ settings, management and education. This unique qualification provides NYA endorsement as a professional youth worker with a specific focus on work in schools. Graduates of this course would be expected to be employed by churches, Christian charities or voluntary sector organisations specialising in work in schools or with Local Authorities, Schools and the Connexions Service.

This exciting and challenging new course combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills and theological reflection. Successful graduates will be skilled and equipped to work in Christian youth ministry and a wide range of general youth work settings. They will also have gained the JNC professional qualification which provides access to a wide variety of youth work jobs. The course includes modules which will cover working with individuals; working with groups; issues of equity, diversity, and interdependence; human development; management; and good practice. CYM youth and community graduates are very well respected in the field and are employed as youth workers or youth ministers by churches and Christian youth work organisations. Throughout 2011 and into the summer of 2012, London School of Theology is hosting a series of study days. The whole event comprises a total of seventeen Saturdays spread through a year and a half. There are three mini-series within the whole scheme. It starts with seven sessions on the Old Testament throughout spring 2011. After the August break there are seven sessions on the New Testament. Finally, in Spring 2012 there are three sessions looking at the Bible itself.These study days are particularly suited for beginners to theological discussion and investigation. The Bible teaches that prayer is a vital part of the Christian life. In this workshop we examine several prayers from Scripture inductively and learn lessons that will revitalise your praying. You will also be introduced to the basics of inductive Bible study so you can continue to discover truth for yourself as you study the Word of God.
Students are introduced to a variety of methods of engaging with a number of significant Biblical genres. In this module the student will be introduced to exegetical and interpretative methods, used for looking at the apocalyptic (Revelation), also they will explore its application to the contemporary world
The Certificate in Applied Theology provides students with foundational training in biblical, theological, cross-cultural and mission studies and follows the first year of the three year Degree. You can study this validated course over one year full-time, or can opt to study part-time over two years.

Theology for Ministry
These one-day-a-week courses enable participants to gain a qualification in theology whilst also continuing with other work or ministry responsibilities. It is also possible to opt for a single module of your choice at the Certificate or Diploma level without having to register for the whole of the courses.

Our Distance Learning department, Extension Studies offers a range of courses, from the Certificate in Christian Studies (CCS) which is a St John’s qualification that requires no prior knowledge to the Foundation Degree in Theology for Ministry and BA (Hons) Degree in Theology and Vocation which are validated by the University of Chester. It is also possible to opt for single modules of your choice from the CCS. There are also some stand alone mini modules, for example the ‘Fit for the Purpose’ module on Vocation, which includes a residential weekend.

The course offers an introduction to Biblical Hermeneutics – a study of the principles and methods to be applied in properly interpreting and ascertaining the meaning of the Biblical text.
